The Revenue Commissioners has confirmed it is examining the tax affairs of individuals who pay for significant building work with cash.
The policy is part of the Revenue's recent clampdown on the construction industry.
New figures released today by the Central Statistics Office showed output construction increased by 80% since 2000.
The Revenue Commissioners is planning 15,000 audits for this year. A quarter of them will focus on the construction sector.
