No agreement at Mayo pipeline talks: Cassells

The independent mediator looking into the Corrib gas pipeline, Peter Cassells, has said that to date there has been no agreement.

It comes despite seven months of intensive discussions with the five Mayo men, Shell Exploration Ireland and the local community.

Mr Cassells said no agreement was likely in the foreseeable future.

In response, Shell said it was disappointed that its willingness to engage in dialogue with Corrib protesters was rejected, but that it was still willing to discuss alternative routes.

The five Mayo men said that while the development was disappointing it did not come as a surprise.

They said Shell had at no time been prepared in any way to alter the Corrib Gas project in response to community concerns.
