Five people have died on Ireland's roads in the last 24 hours.
Three people were killed in a road accident near Athenry, Co Galway, this evening.
The accident happened shortly after 7.30pm.
The dead are a man in his thirties, a woman in her twenties and a three-year-old girl.
They were travelling in a car which was involved in a head-on crash at Lodge Crossroads on the Athenry-Craughwell road.
The man and the woman died at the scene. The three-year-old was rushed to University College Hospital Galway but was pronounced dead on arrival.
A woman and two children who were in the other car sustained minor injuries and are being treated at University College Hospital.
A nine-year-old girl was killed in Co Longford when the vehicle in which she was a passenger overturned.
The driver and another passenger were taken to Mullingar General Hospital but they are not believed to be seriously injured.
The accident happened just after 5pm on the road between Longford Town and Killashee.
Earlier in the day, a 22-year-old man was killed in a road accident in Co Longford.
The pedestrian was struck by a car shortly after 2am in Carrickboy.
The deceased was from Longford and his body has been removed to the Regional Hospital Mullingar.
Meanwhile, five people were injured in a two-car collision in Co Tipperary.
The crash happened about half-a-mile from Carraig-on-Suir on the Clonmel side.
It is believed one car left the road following the collision.
