The Afghan president, Hamid Karzai, has warned that insecurity in his country would spread to the whole region if terrorist training camps beyond Afghanistan's borders are not shut down and financial support for terror blocked.

Mr Karzai did not specify where the camps were or who was providing the money.

Separately, two British soldiers have been killed in southern Afghanistan during operations in the Helmand province.

They were killed yesterday when a rocket-propelled grenade struck one of the defensive posts at the regional headquarters in the town of Sangin.

Five British soldiers have now been killed in the country in the last three weeks. Most of the 3,300 British troops in Afghanistan are in Helmand.
