A nine-month-old baby is in a critical condition in a Cork hospital after a road accident in which six people were injured.

The crash happened at around 3.30pm this afternoon at Ballytrasna, on the main Macroom to Cork road, near Lissarda.

It is believed that a car in which a woman and a child were travelling collided with a vehicle travelling in the opposite direction.

A woman, two children and the baby were travelling in this car.
Five ambulances and a medical team attended the scene.

Five of the injured have been taken to Cork University Hospital, and one to the Mercy Hospital in Cork city.

There is severe traffic disruption in the area as traffic flow has been reduced to a single lane.

Gardaí are advising motorists to avoid the area, if possible. They are also appealing for witnesses to contact them.

Woman killed in Co Kerry road accident

A woman in her 20s has died in a car crash near Killarney in Co Kerry.

She has been named as Paula O'Shea, 25, from Beaufort in Killarney.

The accident happened at around 2.45am this morning at Gortroe, Fossa, on the Killarney to Killorglin road.

There was no other vehicle involved and there were no other occupants of the car.

Gardaí in Killarney are conducting an investigation into the cause of the crash. It is understood that her car hit a ditch.
