The signatures of 3,500 secondary school students who are demanding driver education in schools will be handed to the Chairman of the Road Safety Authority, Gay Byrne, today.

The Co Clare-based charity behind the petition, Safe Driving Pledge, says driver education should be an integral part of the school curriculum in Ireland.

The director of the charity, Jim Connolly, believes it could dramatically reduce the number of teenage road deaths.
