Health Service Executive - Board to discuss report

The board of the Health Service Executive is due to discuss a report tomorrow from a special taskforce which has been asked to recommend the most suitable location for the new national children's hospital.

Independent consultants advised the executive earlier this year that the new 380-bed hospital should be located in Dublin close to a main adult hospital.

In April, the HSE/Department of Health taskforce examining the issue sought more time to consider links with a maternity unit and proposals from the private sector to build the new hospital.

Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children in Crumlin will move to the new hospital site.

Plans for the Children's University Hospital Temple Street to move to the new Mater Hospital campus development were put on hold recently, pending the outcome of the review.
