It is reported that three Palestinian teenagers have been killed and five others were wounded in Gaza after attempting to dismantle unexploded Israeli shells found outside their home.

One of the shells went off when it was taken into the house.

Israel has denied firing artillery at the time and suggested the explosives at the house may have gone off prematurely.

Militia withdrawn by Palestinian government

The Hamas-led Palestinian government has withdrawn a controversial militia from the streets of the Gaza Strip amid rising tension among rival Palestinian factions.

Several people have been killed in clashes between the Hamas militia and the regular security forces which are generally regarded as loyal to President Mahmoud Abbas.

Meanwhile, Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh has vowed the government would make no concessions despite a threat by President Abbas to call a referendum on a plan that would implicitly recognise Israel.

'We will not make political concessions,' Mr Haniyeh told worshippers at a Gaza mosque in response to Mr Abbas's surprise ultimatum for the militant group to back the proposal for Palestinian statehood or face a referendum on the issue.

'Even if they besiege us from all directions, they should not dream that we will make any political concessions,' he added.
