Nine people killed in Thailand flooding

At least nine people have been killed and 47 left missing after flash floods hit northern Thailand following days of torrential rains.

In Uttaradit province, waters rose as high as 4m in what the government has said was the worst flooding in over 20 years.

Dozens of missing were reported around northern Thailand, where officials said evacuations were under way.

Northern Thailand has received unusually heavy rains since a tropical depression moved over the region at the weekend.

Much of the country is prone to flash floods during the rainy season, which is just getting under way.
