€3.1bn wiped off Irish shares

A total of €3.1bn was wiped off the value of shares in the Irish stock market today as share prices fell by 2.9%.

Prices have now fallen in eight of the last ten trading days and all of the gains made earlier this year have now been wiped out.

World stock markets have been shaken by new concerns over inflation and interest rates, and by a reassessment of investor attitudes to risk.
