Dáil rules suspended for EU debate

Dáil - Rules suspended

Normal Dáil rules are being suspended today to facilitate a special day of debate on Europe.

Reading from scripts is to be discouraged, the time of speeches will be capped, and other politicians will be allowed to intervene if they take exception to what is being said.

For the first time, a European Commissioner responsible for Agriculture, Mariann Fischer Boel, will take questions from Oireachtas members in the Dáil chamber.

Also in the Chamber will be Senators, uniquely allowed to join TDs for the special day.

Politicians will also address questions from the public which have been received through a special website, www.europeday.ie.
