The head of the Central Intelligence Agency in the United States has resigned after less than two years in the post.
Porter Goss was appointed by US President George W Bush in 2004 to restructure the CIA following intelligence failures over the 11 September attacks in New York and Washington.
Mr Goss's departure was announced by the President, who gave no explanation for his resignation.
