Darfur - Two million displaced in conflict
Darfur - Two million displaced in conflict

The Sudanese government and the main rebel faction in Darfur have signed a peace agreement designed to end three years of conflict in western Sudan.

The conflict has killed tens of thousands of people and left about two million homeless.

The agreement includes terms for a temporary regional government in Darfur, the disarmament of the pro-government Janjaweed militia and the disbandment of rebel forces.

However, last minute efforts failed to persuade one of two resistance smaller rebel factions to sign the agreement.
