Israel has launched a spy satellite which, officials say, will be used to monitor the Iranian nuclear programme.

It was launched into space from a site in Russia's far east.

Officials say it will take a few days to become operational.

The Israeli Defence Minister, Shaul Mofaz, said the Eros B satellite would increase Israel's ability to collect high quality intelligence at great distances from Israel itself.
