The Iranian President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, has dismissed a United Nations Security Council call to freeze sensitive nuclear work by the end of this week.

He was speaking in a rare news conference that included foreign journalists in Tehran, four days ahead of the Friday deadline set by the council for Iran to stop uranium enrichment.

Mr Ahmadinejad said Iran will not give up its nuclear projects and will not give in to what he called ‘illegitimate demands’.
