The US Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice, has expressed confidence that a diplomatic solution will be found to the crisis over Iran's nuclear programme.
The United Nations Security Council has given Iran until 28 April to halt uranium enrichment or face unspecified consequences.
However, speaking in Chicago last night, Dr Rice warned that military options remain on the table.
She said that Washington would not necessarily wait for an international consensus.
