The Italian Prime Minister, Silvio Berlusconi, is still refusing to admit defeat in last week's general election, despite a ruling by the country's Supreme Court that it was won by the centre-left opposition led by Romano Prodi.
After a meeting with his advisers, Mr Berlusconi let it be known that he was considering a further legal challenge.
The result showed Mr Prodi gaining control of the lower house of parliament - the Chamber of Deputies - by a margin of around 25,000 votes.
Mr Prodi has now promised to work to put together a strong government.
