The Coroner's Court in Roscommon town has been told that a 49-year-old Polish worker fell 12ft from a building and died after he hit a kerb on Good Friday.
Sergeant Pat Connolly told an inquest that Czeslan Malinowski, with an address of 86-300 Grundziada, UL Sobieskiego in Poland, sustained serious head injuries.
He also gave evidence that Mr Malinowski was brought to Roscommon County Hospital after the fall and was later placed on a life support machine until his wife travelled from Poland.
The machine was turned off at 2.20pm on Easter Sunday.
Danuta Malinowski, the dead man's wife, told the coroner that she was married for 22 years. Her husband had come to work in Ireland on 15 May last year. He was a mechanic in Poland.
Superintendent Willie Gallagher asked the coroner, Mr Desmond O'Connor, to adjourn the inquest until Monday 27 July because he said a number of inquiries had to be carried out by gardaí into the cause of the accident.
A jury returned a verdict that Mr Malinowski had died due to a fall of 12ft and striking his skull on a kerb at a building at Main Street, Roscommon.
Mr O'Connor told the dead man's wife that Ireland had many strong links with Poland and he shared her pain at this time. The inquest was then adjourned.
