The UN has condemned the rebel offensive in Chad, one of Africa's poorest countries, which borders the troubled Darfur region of Sudan.
While the offensive has so far been contained by Government troops, the UN Security Council said it deplored any attempt to seize power by force.
The French ambassador to the UN, Jean-Marc de la Sabliere, said the uprising in Chad was linked to the continuing unrest in Darfur, with consequences for humanitarian relief operations in the region.
