A special fund set up to assist the family of Vytas Sukys, a Lithuanian man left permanently brain damaged following a random attack in Dublin, has so far raised almost €50,000.
Mr Sukys is unable to speak and cannot walk unaided after being repeatedly kicked in the head by a Dublin teenager in September 2004.
The fund, which was set up at the EBS in Phibsboro, opened for business on Wednesday morning, and hundreds of donations have been received from people across the country.
A number of other financial institutions have contacted the EBS to say they have donations for the fund which they will pass on.
Gardaí have described the response from the public as excellent.
Donations are still being invited from the public, the fund will remain open indefinitely.
Donations may be lodged to The Vytas Sukys Fund, account number 39993442. Sort code 93-90-21.
