A suspect package delivered to the south Dublin constituency office of the Minister for Justice, Michael McDowell, was declared safe earlier today.
Army spokesperson Commandant Brian Cleary said white powder emanating from the package had been neutralised with a decontaminant.
A small sample was retained for forensic examination.
An explosive ordinance vehicle and armed soldiers attended the scene in Ranelagh village at lunchtime.
The army said it had been alerted by gardaí that a suspect package had been delivered in the post to the minister's office.
