A study has been published today that may help relieve the suffering of people with the skin ailment, eczema.

The research, printed in the journal, Nature Genetics, identifies the gene responsible for the condition.

The study was led by Dr Alan Irvine, Consultant Paediatric Dermatologist at Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children in Crumlin, Dublin, and by Professor Irwin McLean, head of the Human Genetics Unit at the University of Dundee.

Dr Irvine said it is hoped the study would pave the way towards identifying a cure for the condition.
