It has been confirmed that the body of an American man found in Iraq yesterday is that of kidnapped peace activist Tom Fox.
Mr Fox was one of four peace activists kidnapped in Iraq last November. A US State Department spokesman said he had no information on the other three men – two Canadians and the 74-year-old British man, Norman Kember.
The three men were seen on a video, broadcast last Tuesday, apparently pleading with their governments to secure their release.
Details have emerged of the manner in which Mr Fox met his death. One of the policemen who found his body in a dump in Baghdad, said it appeared Mr Fox had been beaten with electric cables before his death.
He had a single gunshot wound to the head and his hands were tied behind him.
A previously unheard of group, the Swords of Righteousness Brigade, had claimed responsibility of the kidnappings.
