A UN report on global water resources says more than 1bn people have no access to clean drinking water.
The World Water Development Report says 20% of the world's population have no access to clean water because of poor governance and bad management, rather than a lack of supply.
It says one of the challenges is the growth of cities in the developing world, increasing the risk of pollution and pressure on water supplies.
