There are new hopes tonight that 300 jobs at the Jacobs Fruitfield factory at Tallaght in Dublin could still be saved.
Earlier today, staff were told the biscuit factory would close within weeks unless a survival plan they rejected last weekend was implemented.
Workers at the plant are planning to meet tomorrow. They will hold discussions with union officials as the workforce decides its next move.
Unions at the plant are urging employees to reconsider the survival plan, which calls for changes in work practices at the factory.
The owners of the plant are not commenting on this crisis but have told workers that the business will be wound down in the coming weeks.
Local politicians have urged the company and unions to come up with a solution to keep the factory open.
The Minister for Enterprise, Trade & Employment, Micheál Martin, is being briefed about the situation.
