The Deputy Mayor of London, Nicky Gavron, has described the suspension of Ken Livingstone as Mayor as absurd and ‘blown out of all proportion’.
Mr Livingstone was suspended from office for four weeks for comparing a Jewish journalist to a concentration camp guard.
The Adjudication Panel for England ruled that Ken Livingstone had brought his office into disrepute when he acted in an ‘unnecessarily insensitive’ manner.
Mr Livingstone made the comments to a Jewish reporter from the London Evening Standard a year ago.
