A Bulgarian man has tested negative for bird flu after doctors isolated him when two of his ducks died and he began showing flu-like symptoms.
The 32-year-old was isolated last Saturday.
A health ministry official said: 'Final results came out negative for bird flu. The man will soon be released from hospital.'
Results from tests on the two dead ducks are expected this week but veterinarians say the ducks most probably died of hunger and thirst because the family could not afford to feed them properly for several weeks.
H5N1 strain found in Slovakia
Earlier, officials in Slovakia said initial tests indicated the deadly H5N1 strain of bird flu had been found in two birds, the first cases of the virus there.
The two birds were found dead in two separate locations on Tuesday. The samples would now be sent to the EU's reference laboratory in Weybridge for confirmation of the results.
Slovakia is the eighth EU country to report an outbreak of bird flu.
Last night, officials in France said a second wild duck was found to have died from the H5N1 strain.
The announcement came after the EU Commission gave the go-ahead to France and Holland to vaccinate millions of birds against bird flu.
