A car bomb exploded outside a mosque in Baghdad today, killing nine people and injuring 28.

The explosion came as worshippers were leaving the local mosque, where the car had been parked.

Meanwhile, Iraqi officials confirmed the conservative Shi'ite United Iraqi Alliance as winner of the elections that took place last December, with 128 seats in the 275-member parliament.

The final results, unchanged from the provisional ones announced last month, show the Kurdish Alliance winning 53 seats, the Sunni-led National Concord Front 44 and former premier Iyad Allawi's Iraqi National List 25.
