Micheál Martin - Announces Dundalk jobs

350 jobs are to be created in Dundalk, Co Louth, over the next three years by the US-based Vesta Corporation.

The company provides telephone, internet and other payment solutions for a variety of industries including prepaid mobile phones.

The European Operation Centre in Dundalk will provide a 24-hour, seven-day customer support operation. The jobs at the IDA-backed project will be mainly for graduates.

The jobs were announced this afternoon by the Minister for Enterprise Trade and Employment, Micheál Martin, and the Minister for Foreign Affairs and local TD, Dermot Ahern.

The company already has operations in China and the UK but this will be its first major investment in Ireland.

For years, Dundalk has seen the decline in most of its traditional industries and many job losses but 2006 has so far been a year of job creation.

Two weeks ago, Bank of Scotland Ireland officially opened a new call centre in the Co Louth town, promising to create 200 jobs.
