Uprising leader urges Palestinian vote

The jailed leader of the Palestinian uprising, Marwan Barghuti, has urged all Palestinians to vote in upcoming legislative elections.

Mr Barghuti, speaking in his first interview since being sentenced to five life sentences by an Israeli court in June 2004, said he hoped the poll on Wednesday would lead to a broad-based reform government.

In the Gaza Strip one person was killed in what witnesses say was an Israeli missile attack.

The Israeli army has denied any involvement in the strike, which took place three days before Palestinians vote to elect a new parliament.
