Israel warns over Iran nuclear capability

Israel's Defence Minister has warned that an Iranian nuclear capability would not be accepted.

Shaul Mofaz said at this stage his government's priority was diplomatic action aimed at convincing Iran to give up its nuclear programme.

But he said Israel was preparing for any eventuality and had what he called the capability to defend itself.

Iran has meanwhile urged the European Union to return to negotiations, saying talks were the only way to defuse the nuclear standoff.

The so-called EU Three, Britain, France and Germany, called off the talks earlier this month when Tehran broke UN seals on uranium enrichment equipment.
