The families of the two Irish students who died in a house fire in France are expected to travel there today.

Patricia McDonald, who was 21 and from Cootehill in Co Cavan, and 20-year-old Carol Nolan from Greenhills in south Dublin were both students at the Institute of Technology in Tallaght.

They were studying for a year at the University of Southern Brittany as part of the ERASMUS international student exchange programme.

An investigation is underway into the cause of the fire at their rented house in the town of Lorient.
