Second fault with Grasslin timers

The manufacturers of an electric water heating timer which was recalled earlier this year are replacing the product for a second time.

It has emerged that some of the replacement devices were incorrectly installed and are a fire hazard.

27,000 Grasslin QE7 timers were recalled in May of this year because of a fault which could cause them to overheat and go on fire.

Since then, Grasslin has replaced more than 9,000 of the timers. Now it has discovered that some of the replacement devices could also go on fire because they were incorrectly installed.

The National Safety Council has said that the regulation of such products needs to be improved.

Grasslin is calling and writing to affected customers to arrange to replace all timers free of charge before the end of February 2006.

In the meantime, it is reiterating its previous warning to stop using the device immediately, and not to use the main switch and boost buttons while sleeping or out of the house.

Anyone who wants further information about the recall or replacement of the Grasslin QE7 should contact the manufacturers on freephone 1800 946 360.
