The Sinn Féin President, Gerry Adams, is to meet Northern Secretary Peter Hain tomorrow following the claim by a former Sinn Féin official that he had spied for the British Government.

Denis Donaldson was expelled from the party on Friday and later alleged that he had been recruited in the 1980s as a paid agent for British intelligence.

Mr Hain is also due to hold talks with the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dermot Ahern.

Meanwhile, Tánaiste Mary Harney has described Mr Donaldson's revelation as 'incredible'.

Speaking to RTÉ's The Week in Politics programme, she said that although the facts of the matter have yet to be established, she did not think an inquiry was called for.

Ms Harney said the emphasis should be on establishing 'normal politics' on this island, hopefully by the end of next year.
