More than €2 billion has been collected by the Revenue Commissioners as part of their investigations into bogus non-resident accounts, offshore assets and the NIB clerical-medical insurance schemes.
In its third Interim report published this afternoon, the Public Accounts Committee described the results as 'satisfactory'.
It called on the Department of Finance and the Revenue Commissioners to put a mechanism in place to evaluate the effectiveness of the changes made in the 2005 Finance Act that pursue people aiding and abetting tax evasion.
The PAC also raised concerns about the level of PAYE and PRSI debt, especially for businesses, where the tax has been deducted from employees but not passed on.
The chairman of the committee, Michael Noonan, said this was a cause for concern - particularly in the building industry.
He has asked the Revenue Commissioners to carry out further investigations.
