Calls for national sexual health strategy

Two of Ireland's leading AIDS charities have called on the Government to develop a national sexual health strategy.

The Dublin Aids Alliance and the Limerick Red Ribbon Project say the issue of HIV/AIDS has virtually disappeared off the political agenda in recent years.

They want increased funding for prevention strategies, given the steady increase in the number of reported sexually transmitted infections.

The call came at the launch of a new safe sex campaign aimed at people aged between 18 and 30.

Organisers hope the Straight Talking Campaign will challenge the stigma that surrounds HIV, STIs and sexuality in Ireland.
