Councillors at Fingal County Council have rejected plans to build a large waste water treatment plant in north Co Dublin.
The councillors voted in favour of carrying out an environmental assessment of the proposal.
They also voted to remove all references to the treatment plant in their assessment of Fingal’s needs for the next seven years.
A study had recommended that a treatment plant be built in Portrane catering for up to 850,000 people.
Local residents who have been campaigning against the proposed plant demonstrated outside the meeting this afternoon.
