An American-educated economist, Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, has claimed victory in the Liberian presidential election and looks set to become Africa's first elected female head of state.
The National Elections Commission said with 97% of votes counted in the presidential run-off, Ms Johnson-Sirleaf now has an unassailable lead with 59.4% of the vote.
