New Delhi - At least 61 killed in three blasts

People have been warned to stay away from public spaces in the Indian capital New Delhi, following bomb explosions yesterday which killed at 61 people.

The three blasts happened within minutes of each other when many people were out shopping ahead of the Hindu festival of Diwali and the Muslim Eid celebration.

Police have raided guesthouses and hotels across the city and handed out sketches of a suspect from a bombing in a market.

They are also looking for a man who got off a bus leaving a bag behind shortly before another of the explosions.

A previously unknown militant group known as the Islami Inqilabi Mahaz has claimed responsibility for the attack but this has not been verified.

The Indian Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, has said the explosions were the work of 'terrorist elements'.

It is reported that ten people have been arrested.

The Chief Minister of Dehli State, Sheila Dixit has said there could still be danger and that the situation remains tense.
