At least 20 people have been in a car bomb exploded in the middle of a village market in Huwaider, north of Baghdad.
The attack in the Shi-ite village, some 60km north of the capital, came minutes before the start of evening prayers at a nearby mosque and the breaking of the day-long Ramadan fast.
Police sources said the bomb was in a pick-up truck which exploded on the town's main street where the mosque, the market and a coffee shop are located.
The blast came the day after a deadline for parties to register for elections that Washington is hoping will set Iraq firmly on the path to peace and democracy, two and a half years after the US-led invasion.
