The Minister for Education, Mary Hanafin, has been asked to intervene in a dispute over the scrapping of subsidies for school milk.
Milk is given out to children at hundreds of after-school homework clubs around the country.
The European Commission has ruled that because the milk is given out at community centres and other venues outside of schools - which are not 'educational establishments' - the EU and Department of Agriculture can no longer subsidise the cost of the milk.
The move has been described as 'mean-fisted' by the ICMSA, which has accused the EU of driving children back to fizzy drink dispensing machines.
