The Government has been called upon to commit at least 10% of its total education budget to adult and community education.
Aontas, the National Association of Adult Education, says the sector gets just 2% at present, and claims people more than 30 wanting to go back to school or college are not getting enough support.
The organisation is holding meetings around the country with those working in the sector.
It wants the Government to make far greater commitments to adult and community education in the forthcoming Budget and the next National Development Plan.
