Gardaí investigating the cause of a car crash in Co Donegal in which five young people died have appealed for anyone with information about the incident to come forward.

Weather conditions were extremely bad at the time of the accident. Two vehicles collided head on at Cross Quigleys Point, Muff, Co Donegal at 3.30am.

The five, three men and two women, were in one car. They have been named as Darren Quinn, 21, Gavin Duffy, 21, Charlene O Connor, 21, Rachelle Peoples, 22, all from Buncrana and David Steele, 23, from Muff.

The male driver of the other car was injured and taken to Altnagelvin Hospital.

Separately, a male motorcyclist has been killed after his bike collided with a car in Swords in Dublin.

The accident happened at the junction of The Naul and Oldtown roads at around 4.30pm.

Woman dies in Clonmel accident

A woman has been killed and five people have been injured in a car crash outside Clonmel in Co Tipperary.

The woman has been named as Samantha Butler, 20, from Carrick On Suir, Co Tipperary. She was a passenger in one of the two cars involved in the crash.

One of the injured is said to be in a critical condition.

The accident happened at Twomilebridge on the main Clonmel-Waterford Road shortly before 10.30pm last night.

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to contact them on 052 77640. They also wish to advise motorists that this road will be closed until further notice and diversions are in place.
