Mayo Independent TD Jerry Cowley has been expelled from the Dáil for refusing to resume his seat during a noisy protest over the Rossport five.
He interrupted the Taoiseach, who was responding to questions on the issue from Socialist Party TD Joe Higgins.
The Fine Gael Leader, Enda Kenny, had called on the Taoiseach to appoint a mediator to intervene in the dispute over the Corrib Gas Pipeline.
The Taoiseach said that the Government had looked at a number of ways to try to solve the dispute and secure the release of the five men.
However, he said that the indications were that the men would not engage in negotiations until they were released from prison.
Deputy Higgins said the Government had given Shell the right to trample on the people of Rossport. He accused the company of being merciless in its greed.
