The inquest into the death of a nine-year-old Cavan girl has been adjourned once again.

Frances Sheridan died in February of last year.

Several weeks earlier she had had her appendix removed at Cavan General Hospital. She later began to complain of stomach pains and when she was brought back to the hospital by her mother, junior doctors told them it was just a tummy bug.

She was sent home where she died 48 hours later.

A post mortem revealed that her intestines had become trapped by internal scar tissue.

In Cavan this afternoon, a further adjournment was sought by the gardaí as the Director of Public Prosecutions had not yet decided if anyone should face legal action as a result of what happened.

The matter has now been adjourned until December.
