The former British Lord Chief Justice, Lord Lane, has died aged 87.
Lord Lane famously dismissed the 1987 appeal against conviction of the Birmingham Six, four years before they were cleared of the 1974 pub bombings.
He became a barrister in 1946 and was made a High Court judge in 1966 after taking silk in 1962.
He was made an appeal court judge in 1974 before becoming Lord Chief Justice in 1980, retiring in 1992.
