A bronze bust of former Taoiseach Charles Haughey has been unveiled on Dingle Pier in Co Kerry.

The bronze and limestone monument was erected by local fishermen in recognition of the disgraced politicians contribution to the development of the harbour.

Up to 500 people, including Mr Haughey's four children and three grandchildren, attended the unveiling which took place before the start of the annual regatta.

Mr Haughey was said to be too unwell to attend, but speaking on his behalf, Sean Haughey said his father sincerely appreciated the fishermen's decision to erect this monument.
