The US military said a roadside bomb north of the capital, Baghdad, killed four American soldiers.
The troops, from a unit based in Tikrit, were killed near the town of Samarra.
More than 60 US troops have died in Iraq this month. According to Pentagon figures, the total US military deaths in Iraq since the March 2003 invasion is 1,856.
