Dublin Bus has begun installing digital security cameras on all its buses.
The company is fitting the cameras in its 1,062 buses at a cost of €2.8 million.
The digital system allows up to eight cameras on each bus. The company says 90% of the fleet will be fitted with the new system by the end of the year.
Spokeswoman Gráinne Mackin said the firm was acting to safeguard its passengers.
She said security on public transport had come to the fore in the wake of the bomb attacks in London.
