Three British soldiers killed in Iraq

Three British soldiers have been killed in southeastern Iraq.

It is understood that the soldiers were part of a patrol in Al-Amarah, 150 kilometres north of Basra city, that was targeted by a roadside bomb.

Al-Amarah is a stronghold of Shi'ite radical leader Moqtada al-Sadr.

Two soldiers were also wounded in the explosion, which occurred in the town's Hayae al-Risala district.

The soldiers were part of Task Force Maysan, a battle group with the Staffordshire Regiment and supporting troops from the 8,500-strong British contingent in southern Iraq.
